About the Fringe

What's a Fringe?
The Fringe is a 10-and-a-half day celebration of live theatre. The Festival annually welcomes more than 130 theatre companies to participate on 13 indoor stages, 2 outdoor stages, and 13 Bring Your Own Venues. The Fringe provides all artists, both emerging and established with the opportunity to produce their play no matter the content, form or style. The Canadian Fringe Festival model does not jury or censor the artists' work in any way. Theatre companies are selected in a non-juried manner and those given a "slot" work within the technical guidelines of the Festival to produce their own art. Artists receive 100% of the revenue generated from the set ticket price. Festival patrons are offered physically and financially accessible arts experiences, and are encouraged to enter into dialogues with the artists and other audience members. The Fringe is also a great place to buy Green Onion cakes.

How do I Fringe?
You should pick up a Festival Program Guide (a guide costs $6 and is your key to a successful Fringe experience). Program Guides are available for purchase at on-site Information booths, at 7-11 locations, and at various retailers around the Old Strathcona neighbourhood. Once you have a Program Guide you can choose a play you want to see. Then you can buy a ticket for a performance. Advance tickets are available at the Box Office in the TransAlta Arts Barns, or you can call 409-1910. Tickets for a performance happening today are available at the door of the venue. Of course, while you're at the Fringe, you should be sure to participate in our lively outdoor scene. Please remember that Outdoor Stage Performers and Buskers make their living by "passing the hat," so don't be shy about showing them your appreciation and toss them a toonie or two. Or ten.

Where can I get more information? There are three Information Booths on site:
· On the corner of 104th Street and 83rd Avenue
· On 85th Avenue by the alley
· In the lobby of the TransAlta Arts Barns (10330 84th Avenue)

Or you can call the Fringe at 448-9000 or click on the Fringe logos.
