What's a Fringe?
The Fringe is an 11 day celebration of live theatre. Going since 1982, Edmonton's Fringe Festival now annually welcomes more than 150 theatre companies to participate on 10 indoor stages, 2 outdoor stages, and 18 independent venues. The Fringe provides all artists, both emerging and established with the opportunity to produce their play no matter the content, form, or style. The Canadian Fringe Festival model does not jury or censor the artists' work in any way. Theatre companies are selected by a lottery. Those lucky chosen are programmed into one of our venues and must work within the technical guidelines of the Festival to produce their own art. Artists receive 100% of the revenue generated from the set ticket price. Festival patrons are offered physically and financially accessible theatre experiences, and are encouraged to enter into dialogues with the artists and other audience members. The Edmonton Fringe also has a great outdoor Festival that is a great place to take in the outdoor performers and buskers. Also check out KidsFringe, and shop at the many arts and crafts vendors and share food from an array of international food vendors. |
